ASPB 2013 Women's Young Investigator Travel Award Application

OPENS: THURSDAY, JANUARY 03, 2013
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO: MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2013 (11:59 P.M. ET)
NOTIFICATION DATE: MARCH 4, 2013

ASPB is now accepting applications via electronic submission for Women's Young Investigator Travel Awards to Plant Biology 2013. The goal of the program is to increase attendance of female young investigators who are at the faculty-level in the first five years of an academic, industry or government position at the annual meeting by providing travel funds. The Society has allotted $7000 to be given out in increments of $1000 for this program.

ASPB offers seven $1000 awards to attend the Plant Biology 2013 Annual Meeting for young investigators who are women. Eligible women must be members of ASPB in the first five years as faculty-level independent investigators in academia, industry or government.

Applications and supporting materials must be submitted electronically by Monday, February 18, 2013 (11:59 p.m. ET). Applicants who are selected to receive a grant will be notified by email by March 4, 2013.

Please Note: award checks will not be issued until the awardee has registered for Plant Biology 2013. Awardees are encouraged to register and secure housing for Plant Biology 2013 well in advance of the early-bird deadline.

Applicants Must Submit:
  1. an abstract of research to be presented at the meeting;
  2. a one page personal statement that:
    1. explains why the applicant's travel should be supported by ASPB,
    2. delineates other professional obligations,
    3. defines alternate potential sources of travel funds; and
  3. a two page curriculum vitae in NSF format.

Selection criteria will be based first on the science and the quality of the abstract relative to the amount of time as a young investigator, second on the statement of why ASPB should support travel and third on financial need. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted electronically by Monday, February 18, 2013 (11:59 p.m. ET). Applicants who are selected to receive a grant will be notified by email by March 4, 2013.

Please Note:
  • All Women's Young Investigator Travel Award recipients will receive the early-bird registration rate.
  • Grant checks will not be issued until the awardee has registered for the ASPB annual meeting.
  • Should unforeseen events prevent an awardee from attending the meeting, the awardee must notify Sylvia Lee immediately and return the award so that another applicant can use the award to attend the meeting.
